In keeping with its track record of being at the forefront of video technology, Canon has announced three exciting new products: a new Cinema EOS System camera, a 4K broadcast zoom lens and a 31-inch 4K HDR professional reference display.
They will be unveiled for the first time at the International Broadcasting Convention, IBC 2019, which is being held at RAI Amsterdam in the Netherlands from Friday 13 to Tuesday 17 September.
Here’s a sneak preview of the new kit on show at the Canon stand at IBC 2019.
The much-anticipated Canon EOS C500 Mark II is a new-generation Cinema EOS System camera which incorporates a 5.9K Full Frame sensor in its newly-developed, compact and lightweight (1,750g) body. Gimbals and handheld rigs can be comfortably attached, making it suitable for a variety of shooting conditions.
The 5.9K Full Frame sensor produces an immersive, cinematic look combined with faithful colour reproduction and smooth skin tones. It also delivers an impressive 15+ stop latitude with a wide colour space, making it ideal for High Dynamic Range productions. It supports high frame rate recordings up to a maximum 50/60fps at 5.9K or 120fps in 2K.
The camera incorporates the newly developed DIGIC DV 7 image processor, which enables Cinema RAW Light recording with 5.9K resolution as well as Canon’s XF-AVC format in 4K 4:2:2 10-bit onto CFexpress cards.
The Canon EOS C500 Mark II is also the first Cinema EOS System camera to feature Electronic Image Stabilization (IS) within the camera body, which supports 5-axis camera shake correction.
At the same time, Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF Technology offers high-speed Continuous AF, controlled via the 4.3-inch LCD touch screen monitor.
The new Canon CJ15EX4.3B is a compact, lightweight 15x broadcast zoom lens that enables the user to shoot outstanding 4K footage in all situations.
This versatile UHDxs range zoom lens offers exceptional wide-angle flexibility as well as an impressive telephoto reach that makes it suitable for news, sport and studio environments.
It has a focal length of 4.3-65mm, but its built-in 2x extender increases the total focal length to 8.6-130mm. The maximum aperture through the zoom range is f/1.8-f/3.6.
The lens offers 4K resolution from the centre of the image to the outer edges as well as outstanding optical performance thanks to its Canon-developed Air Sphere Coating (ASC). This hybrid coating reduces internal reflections and effectively slows down light gradually before it passes through the lens, which enhances image quality.
Canon DP-V3120 is a 31-inch 4K HDR Professional Reference Display providing industry-leading 2,000 cd/m² of full-screen brightness and 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio with exceptional accuracy and consistency. It offers extensive High Dynamic Range monitoring assist functions and great flexibility for creating exceptional HDR content.
Its cutting-edge backlight system uses a full-screen sensor array to monitor the backlight performance, while an intelligent auto correction technology maintains and adjusts image accuracy.
Meanwhile, a precise LED control algorithm and advanced image processing ensures the display offers accurate reproduction of shadow detail and brighter highlights.
It also has four 12G-SDI interface terminals, so the display can handle multiple 4K signals, providing a 4-screen split view, single 4K image, or even a single 8K image (displayed in 4K).
The display incorporates a newly-designed cooling mechanism which operates quietly while maintaining a high continuous luminance level, making it ideal for use in grading suites.
Canon’s IBC stand can be found in Hall 12, stand D60, at the RAI Exhibition and Convention Centre, Amsterdam, 13-17 September 2019.
