Canon
MOBILE FILE TRANSFER app

Harness the power of 5G and redefine your wireless workflow, with a mobile file transfer app that lets you create, edit and add IPTC data to images for quicker tagging and cataloguing while out in the field.

ACCELERATE YOUR WORKFLOW

Give your workflow the edge and file your images faster with an app that’s built around high performance. Add metadata to images, set-up FTP protocols and much more using this Canon mobile app with your 5G compatible phone. It brings new levels of delivery – even while you’re still shooting.

Send image information direct to camera

Use the app to add IPTC metadata to images pre- or post-capture. Load up the camera with shoot details such as location, subject, event and camera used to save time afterwards.

Import pre-prepared data

Time spent before a shoot increases efficiency afterwards, which is why the app allows you to add information and voice memos to images automatically, the moment they are captured.

Create FTP server settings and save to phone

Use the app to store up to 20 FTP addresses, transferring still images via Wi-Fi or 5G compatible phone; an ideal solution for a professional photographer on the move.

Connect via USB or Wi-Fi1 and auto transfer

The app allows wired or wireless connection for fast and stable image transfer from camera to app, use the phones cellular or Wi-Fi connection to transmit images to clients the moment they are shot.

Select and send images

View your images in the app and send individually or as a batch via multi-image transfer. After sending, the thumbnails will be ticked to show a successful upload.

Crop2, add voice memo and set star rating

Crop and send your images and use the universally supported star rating to denote preference, plus add voice annotations to your shots for specific information or instructions.

Main benefits

Industry standard metadata

Ensuring your copyright and caption data conform to accepted protocols is vital when working with news organisations. Information such as your name, copyright information and the caption can be embedded easily in the MFT app. IIM standard metadata embedded in images are often referred to as "IPTC headers", and can be easily encoded and decoded by most popular photo editing software. Use the app to add this metadata to images pre- or post-capture. Load up the camera with shoot details such as location, subject, event and camera used to save time afterwards.

Work remote smarter, and prepare quicker

Thanks to the continued rollout of 5G networks, the app can work over your phone’s cellular signal enabling you to work remotely without Wi-Fi so you can send anywhere in the field. When you know the details of an assignment and can add the information beforehand, the app allows you to input the information beforehand, adding shoot information such as geotags via your phone’s GPS and voice information automatically, the moment each image is captured. The app can be locked once information is inputed to prevent accidental erasing when you’re out in the field.

Choose or change FTP server settings

The MFT app allows the FTP server to be selected or changed just before sending, thus enabling the ability to send images to different places quicker and easier. Use the app to store up to 20 FTP addresses, transferring still images via Wi-Fi or 5G compatible phone; an ideal solution for a professional photographer on the move.

Connect via USB or Wi-Fi1 and auto transfer

Use the transfer screen in the app to see real-time transfer status of images as they are sending. The app allows wired or wireless connection for fast and stable image transfer from camera to app. Use the phones cellular or Wi-Fi connection to transmit images to clients the moment they are shot. Images are not transferred to your phone, merely pass through the app direct from your camera so you don’t need to worry about your phone memory being filled up unexpectedly. And importantly, auto transfer can also be used to create a back up of images somewhere else when shooting in dangerous situations.

Select and send images

There are two methods in the app to send images: either as single files, or as group via multiple image transfer. Single image transfer is the simplest way to send a particular shot. Simply find the image you want to send then click the “Transfer” icon and it will be sent to the FTP server from the camera. This option is ideal if a voice memo needs to be applied via the phone. For batch sending, simply press the “Select” button at the top right of screen then select the images, or selecting a range of images by pressing and holding one image and then select the last image in sequence you want to send. After sending, the thumbnails will be ticked to show a successful upload. For a faster transfer use a wired USB connection.

Crop2, add voice memo and set star rating

The MFT app features a basic straightening ability and crop function to enable images to be enhanced prior to transmitting via FTP. The apps can also be used to sort images via rating stars. The app and the camera can both apply these ratings so you can make edits from a large group of images to select which images to send from a final set. Alternatively, the ratings can be used to identify different subjects for later editing or cataloguing after a shoot. The Rate (star) system is universally supported so images that are rated can also be seen when opened in most photo editing app like lightroom and photoshop. Therefore, the rating can be used as part your workflow from capture to edit.
